  • Theoretical and experimental investigations of physical and biogeochemical ocean processes – in particular internal waves, mixing processes, strait flows, hydraulic control by buoyant rotating pools and fronts, and nutrient dynamics.
  • Research on the oceanic response to atmospheric freshwater transports.
  • Development of process-based models of ocean circulation and coupled physical-biogeochemical ocean systems, in particular with application to aquaculture and water-quality modeling. Some of the publications in this research area (water quality model and fish model) are available as downloads below.


Head of the Marine System Analysis Group consisting of seven PhDs and one graduate student. The group has a 12 m research vessel Alice and 2 vertically yo-yoing platforms (SeaTramp) as well as equipment for measurements of currents (ADCP) and other physical and biological parameters in the sea.
