Temperature, salinity and oxygen measurements

Below you can see the most recent measurement made by our mooring in the Byfjorden. The instruments on the mooring continously measure temperature, salinity and oxygen concentrations at their depth. Approximately every fourth hour the gathered data is transmitted and automatically published here without delay. The graph displays temperature in degrees Celsius (green line), salinity in salinity units (blue line), and dissolved oxygen in micromoles per litre (red line). Click on image for a larger version.

The contour graph below shows the past four weeks measurements. The upper panel shows temperature in degrees Celsius, the middle panel shows salinity in salinity units and the lower panel shows dissolved oxygen in micromoles per litre. On the right hand side you will find the colour bar for the graphs. The horizontal dashed line in the oxygen graph indicate where the border between oxic and hypoxic water is located. Hypoxic waters have a concentration of dissolved oxygen of 90 micromoles of oxygen per litre or less. This amount is too small for higher organisms to survive. Please note that the smaller yellow lines on the sides of all three graphs denote depths of the instruments. Click on the image for a larger version.
