Since the last profile was taken in the Byfjord in October, the mixed layer has migrated from 6 to approximately 16 metres depth due to heavy precipitation, increased runoff and convection due to colder water. The salinity in the mixed layer has therefore decreased over the last month. This also affects the water temperature, which has decreased as the air temperature decreases. Oxygen levels have increased in the mixed layer but remain at anoxic levels below 16 metres depth. Click image for a larger version.
